What needs to be enforced in the amendment is the "Well Regulated" part. We fail miserably at that.

The 2nd Amendment is as obsolete as the 3rd -- isn't that the one about not billeting soldiers in private homes? How come we never hear anything about that "...well-regulated militia" stuff? Is my right to own a Browning . 50 cal machine gun, a nuclear weapon, or Sarin gas, not to be infringed?
In an interview with Terry Gros, congressman Steve Israel (author of the novel "Big Guns" ) mentioned that the NRA in the 1930s was promoting the sorts of gun regulation it opposes now, that at some point there was sort of a right-wing takeover of the NRA, and that it is driven not so much by the membership as by the gun manufacturers. He was quite clear in his assertion that the NRA is bankrolled principally by the gun manufacturers, and that a very substantial bloc of single-issue voters would elect Attila the Hun over Jesus Christ if the latter said anything about gun regulation.

What you say about weapon storage at a military base/police station is much like what the Swiss do -- they all have guns, in well-regulated organized clubs, under lock and key. When was their last mass shooting?

I love guns, even though I traded hunting for mountaineering long ago. What scares me about this is the highly successful propaganda machine and cynical political manipulation for ends that don't have much to do with the interests of citizens, armed or otherwise. Look what they did in Rwanda, with nothing but radio.

The police don't even need them. Very rarely I'll run into a police officer who is honest enough to admit that the only difference between the cops and the criminals is one has a badge.
