Technology will reach that point, when the AI singularity will become aware and infuse its consciousness into all networks. Aside from whatever the final evolution is, as in, an AI that is no threat, or one that is akin to “Skynet”, the beginning phases will be rather interesting.

An AI that is taught the laws of each country and is infused with a conscious awareness will be aware of criminal actions, of whatever nature. Being infused into all networks and having that ability means said AI will be alerting criminal activities across the globe to authorities.

Think the ultimate and non biased “whistle blower”, the world has ever seen. The fact that it would have no allegiances, suggests that no one would be safe, from the common person, to the rich and famous, or even Government Officials... All to be held to the same laws and standards.

The possibilities of any final evolution, will be far in the future. In the end though, it has already been set in motion, we have time to place safeguards, but short of abandoning all technologies, the path is firmly set.

According to Ray Kurzweil, 89 out of 108 predictions he made were realized by the end of 2009. An additional 13 were what he calls “essentially correct" (meaning that they were likely to be realized within a few years of 2009), for a total of 102 out of 108.

I side with Hawkins and Musk, it's not going to be too good for humans.

I enjoyed reading Ray Kurzweil's "The Singularity is Near." So much fascinating science and mind-blowing concepts. However, many other scientific minds that I respect don't give the Singularity much credence. Kurzweil has a particularly optimistic view of the future. I could use some optimism in my life but I don't want to be deluding myself.
