I find that line to be about as cringe inducing as "shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars."

That was the 70s. Older and wiser love one person at a time. It's healthier for you mentally and physically.

That this isn't actually love that is being discussed. Either the person saying it is fine with mediocrity or the person it is being said about doesn't have any love at all actually. Love is a complex topic.
