It was a long winter in my part of Canada and a spring that never seemed to get here but summer is coming and I have seedling in the greenhouse and hardier plants in the ground. 600 garlic bulbs that I planted last fall have survived the winter and are doing well, lots of veggies growing now and the deer fencing is up. Any other Atheist gardeners out there?
I love garlic!
Me too but I may have overdone it this year, planted 300 last year and it wasn't enough so I doubled it thinking the winter might take a third, over 95% survived.
How long does garlic keep for? Can it be frozen?
@Ellatynemouth Keep your garlic in a cool, dark place and it should last 4 to 6 months. If you are going to freeze it then I would dice it up first and put it in an air tight container or a ziploc bag to keep the flavour intact.
Thank you. I never knew that.
@Ellatynemouth The nice thing is that if you have a bit too much and the last of it starts to sprout the following spring, just take it out into your garden and plant it.
I don't have a garden unfortunately, but I've learned a lot.
@Ellatynemouth garlic grows just fine in a planter, even an old bucket with some decent soil will do and it requires very little attention, just plant it early and it will be ready by fall when the bottom leaves turn brown. It is also an effective deterrent against many garden pests like deer, squirrels and rabbits, even some insect pests. I plant a garlic perimeter around my main vegetable garden as a barrier to pests that want to forage on my veggies.
Hey is that where snowflakes are grown ?
Not grown, manufactured. We have giant snowflake production facilities up here, shut down for summer maintenance at the moment but they'll be up and running again in a few months.
@Surfpirate
OK ! Always wondered ?
