Not sure that this particular article supports your statement but I fully agree with both the intent of the article and your statement. I do believe that the narratives we've chosen to believe in are wrong, complex and 'comforting illusion'. Nice food for thought, moNo.
I think theists are generally happy to believe that God exists, and atheists are generally happy to believe that God doesn't exist. I have rarely--if ever--heard a theist say "I wish there were no God" or an atheist say, "I wish there were a God." I think the implications of this are pretty awesome.
