The rampant use of logical fallacies in today’s discourse (political) is to me quite astonishing

It’s simply because no one is interested in making intellectual arguments. The majority of the population isn’t interested in reason, and has too short an attention span to be educated. Instead every politician and activist uses emotional appeals.

Agreed. And, it is disturbing that so many people fall for the deliberate use of fallacious thinking. Shows a lack of critical thinking skills among a large part of our population -- and this is the way that Republicans want it.

Took me a moment to get what you meant. I at first thought you meant that they use logical fallacy arguments to debunk each other, which didnt' really make sense, because nobody does that in today's media.

Than it occurred to me that they are using arguments that ARE logical fallacies. Then it suddenly made sense. I am in total agreement with that.

I myself never was taught about logical fallacies in high school or college. I instead was exposed to them through a short story compilation from a 1950's comic novelist. The book was "The many Loves of Doby Gillis" by Max Shulman, and the story was titled "Love Is A Fallacy".

Here is a link to the story that introduced me to logical fallacies. Enjoy

I think politics is unfortunately driven to appeal to the lowest common denominator. With that, logical fallacies are almost unavoidable.
