Like others on here I do not believe tRump will still be president in 2020. It really all depends on the 2018 election. Got out and vote for sanity.

When there was the slightest whisper The Donald would run for office I laughed myself silly and was convinced there was no way this country is going to allow that to happen. Appearantly I was wrong.

I see The Donald is surrounding himself with protection. A lot of it, from very slimey people. He is a well greased piglet, and is going to be a slippery grab to toss off the farm.

The POTUS is a figurehead. One man does not run this country. The question is how well organized is the collective who does, and what are they willing to allow.

The frightening prospect is that with the nation so divided and infighting as it is much will slip by as the smoke and mirrors are very active. Which is more profitable, more insurection and war, or peace?

My own take is that, despite the many and various strands linking the Trump campaign/transition/White House to Russia and its attack on the 2016 election now interconnecting to form an ever-widening web, it will be the Stormy Daniels case, the seizure of Michael Cohen's files and cellphones, the dogged determination of attorney Michael Avennati, and the very bright light these are about to shed on the past and present financial machinations and questionable dealings of the present occupant of the White House that will force The Donald to step down.

It's a minority of Americans who follow the daily news coverage of the evidence being uncovered by the Mueller investigation, besides which, even after November's election, there may not be the required 60% of Senate votes necessary to impeach. However, when the dirty deals with unsavory busness partners that has been the consistent hallmark of Trump's business adventures, and his flagrant defiance of leagl restraint - not least in his use of the Trump Foundation as a personal slush fund and source of campaign funds - see the light of day, all but his most committed followers will see for themselves the nature of the man.

I sure hope the hell not! Trump is a disaster! The DNC screwed up big time in 2016. Bernie Sanders should have been the nominee. Hopefully, they learned their lesson going into 2020. I'm much rather have a President Sanders than a President Trump.

Edit: Not to mention that all of the polls had Sanders stomping Trump in the general election!

I caucused for Sanders and, at the district level, he was the clear favorite, but anyone paying attention could see an undercurrent working against him. When Clinton got the nod, I started looking at the Libertarians. Seemed like Johnson had some good ideas, but wasn't getting any air time. Then he did. WOW, he was bad!! It's shaping up to be another shit show, with the Dems clamoring for the title of biggest Trump hater, while not knowing if they want to go with the appearance of stable tradition or ride the populist Bernie machine and the GOP not knowing if they should distance themselves from Trumps antics or declare him crazy like a fox and fall in with him. I can see the orangutan leveraging the chaos and seizing a 2nd term. He's got a lot of resistance from both sides - that's not the problem. The problem is a lack of cohesion among the resistance.

Sometimes it really is disappointing to realize how self deluded I was; delighting in the discovery of this site because I found quite a few people focused in reality. Then a post like this draws so many comments demonstrating the opposite.

There is such a long way to go. Purveyors of 'faith' have nothing about which to feel anxious in our times.

IF democrats can take the house in 2018 they can start impeachment proceedings and that will derail what's happening here. If that doesn't happen, Republicans will continue to cater to this sociopath and he will get a 2nd term. Will he make it through the 2nd term? Not likely. YES! LOVE BERNIE!

We know the always angry right will vote, but will the sometimes complacent left and so-called
left leaning and centrist independents vote. If they do, he won't win.

Considering his historically low approval ratings and the fact he lost the popular vote by a wide margin in 2016, the odds should be stacked against him. However, his ace in the hole is the fact he is running against the Democrats. Right now I do not trust that the Democrats have their act together. Even before the Hillary loss in 2016, they were eviscerated by the Republicans at the Congressional and state level.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez...part of Bernie's campaign wiped out her Democratic opponent. It could be that she really represents her electorate (of the same, predominant culture) or it be that progressives with a socialist agenda are becoming predominant in the Democratic party. THAT would be fantastic!

Trump has several things going for him headed into 2020:

1. Incumbency.
2. A shockingly large group of people who seem to worship him personally.
3. Enough conservatives happy enough to put up with his crap because they're getting the Supreme Court picks that they really cared about all along.
4. A Democratic party that seems hellbent on setting its centrist and progressive factions against one another.
5. A general public that despite everything does not seem to either care about public affairs or engage in critical thought.
6. A media that has proven itself susceptible to being bullied by those in power.

So let's not fool ourselves: as unpopular as he is, he could be re-elected!

I see two ways Trump can win.

1. The economy keeps rocking, and he can rig that. NK takes real steps towards disarmament, less likely but plausible. Trump would ride those two Yuge wins almost no matter who the DNC puts up.

2. Democrats choose another horrific candidate, it's a little scary Hillary and Bernie are so popular. Sanders might have beat him in 2016, but I think that's unlikely for 2020.

It's still early and any prognosticating is about as likely as your average religious prophecy.

I honestly can't believe he is still there. I have never been so afraid and disappointed. I don't recognize my own country. I am horrified about what is going on and that no one is stopping it.
