I wish the "hovering" would not be reported in our "visitor" log. Most I figure are accidental, since I accidentally cause my cursor to land where mini-bios pop up and stay there until I move my cursor away to some blank space.

I used to enjoy seeing who "visited" my profile, but most of just "hovered" and I'm not interested in seeing that. I don't want all my accidental hovers being shown on others visitor log, so I opted not to let people know I "visited" which is a shame, as I like transparency, but I'm not interested in having all my accidental popups from moving my cursor reported as well.

Visited is when you have a look at someone's profile. Hovered is when you accidentally leave the cursor hanging on their name for a second.

Yes, initially. But, if you hover too long it counts as a visit.

There is no difference if you hover too long.

Visit (Dictionary.com)

"verb (used with object)

"1. to go to and stay with (a person or family) or at (a place) for a short time for reasons of sociability, politeness, business, curiosity, etc.:
2. to visit a friend; to visit clients; to visit Paris.
3. to stay with as a guest.
3. to come or go to: to visit a church for prayer."

Hover (Dictionary.com)

"verb (used without object)

"1. to hang fluttering or suspended in the air: The helicopter hovered over the building.
2. to keep lingering about; wait near at hand.
3. to remain in an uncertain or irresolute state; waver: to hover between life and death.

Thanks, I already know the standard dictionary meanings of the words. I'm looking for what they mean in the context of this site. I realize I should have been more clear in my original question.
