I’m Texan by birth. I live way up in Amarillo. That’s a 10+ hour car ride to where you are. You’re living in one of the best areas to be a non-believer. I get side-eye if I don’t tell someone “bless you” when they sneeze. Find the Universal Unitarians. There are bound to be some atheists and agnostics in that group. And apparently they throw a hell of a shindig.

Lived in Texas (Dallas/North Texas) for 5 years and have (to be ex) in-laws down towards Houston, I will say that where you are does have plenty of things to do, a relatively diverse population, and plenty of nice restaurants.

Welcome! I'm lucky, I am Canadian, we are not a super religious country, you don't see a lot of holy rollers here. My 2 best friends just moved here last spring from Texas DFW area.. I hear a lot of crazy stories from them!!

It's not just Texas. Christian fundamentalism dominates the culture across the southern U.S. However, that doesn't mean everyone in the Bible Belt has been assimilated. In the more urban areas and around the University towns you will find a greater diversity of thought and points of view.

I figure Texas is a big state, gotta be a couple Humanists or Atheists down there. I'm a non Texan and Welcome!!
