Of course I was aware of the reputation Texas has as a Christian state, but I wasn't prepared for just how Christian. It can be overwhelming. Meeting people who aren't religious would go a long way to restoring my sanity. Texans and non Texans alike are welcome to say hi 🙂

I’m Texan by birth. I live way up in Amarillo. That’s a 10+ hour car ride to where you are. You’re living in one of the best areas to be a non-believer. I get side-eye if I don’t tell someone “bless you” when they sneeze. Find the Universal Unitarians. There are bound to be some atheists and agnostics in that group. And apparently they throw a hell of a shindig.

I'm not sure what to say. While I'm delighted to hear that this is one of the best places to be, I'm actually staggered at the same time. If this is one of the best, I'd hate to see one of the worst! Lol!

Hello and welcome! Lived in Texas nearly 30 years. Best of luck finding nonreligious folks....until then this site can be a likeminded friend.

Thank you so much! That is my hope! I could use a discussion or two that doesn't involve Jesus

@Cirdan, well we have discussion about Jesus, just not the same kind you're talking about. 🙂 I like this site and the people are genuinely welcoming. I think you'll like it.

And again, I thank you kindly mam!

Lived in Texas (Dallas/North Texas) for 5 years and have (to be ex) in-laws down towards Houston, I will say that where you are does have plenty of things to do, a relatively diverse population, and plenty of nice restaurants.

This is true. I do try to see the silver lining, but I may have a ways to go lol!

welcome to the site. What took you to Texas?

Thank you! The short answer is family and business opportunity

@Cirdan Top Priorities. Family and business are worth the Sacrifice.

Hello from New England and I'm sorry. I couldn't imagine the horror of living anywhere in the former Confederacy.

Uh oh. You're not Sox fan are you?? 😉. Nice to meet you sir.

While hockey and football are my preferred sports, I can't deny that drinking beer and watching a game at Fenway Park is something I enjoy.

Hello! I'm in NC, and the way I've avoided people with abrasive personalities and beliefs is by not talking to strangers much at all lol. It also helps that I go to a pretty liberal college.

Yup Colleges can be a good place to get away from religion. At least for a time lol. Thanks for saying hi!

Welcome! I'm lucky, I am Canadian, we are not a super religious country, you don't see a lot of holy rollers here. My 2 best friends just moved here last spring from Texas DFW area.. I hear a lot of crazy stories from them!!

Thank you! I have a few crazy stories of my own lol!

@Cirdan LOL i bet you do!

It's not just Texas. Christian fundamentalism dominates the culture across the southern U.S. However, that doesn't mean everyone in the Bible Belt has been assimilated. In the more urban areas and around the University towns you will find a greater diversity of thought and points of view.
