Recently I heard a minister expound about creation. His statement was wasn't it wonderful that god made the universe for us children of his creation to observe and ponder? I found this statement insulting to say the least. I am confident that there is other intelligent life in the universe just based upon the size. In addition,, it is my hypothesis that the big bang occurred in an alternate universe and that many of these exist as space and time appear to go on forever.i am confident that what we view as intelligent life is associated with each of these universes.Just think in order to have nothing you must have something to compare it to and then nothing is something it is the lack of anything. Our universe was not created out of nothing rather it was created out of mass and energy probably from another universe.

Yesterday I heard that pence thought that all gay people should be dealt with in a very inhumane manner.I find that republicans who constantly support the Constitution and are extremely vocal about it tend to ignore it when they feel differently about a subject covered by the Constitution.Guns, peace, religion, sexual orientation seem to be their favorites. Why is it that we as people do not challenge them openly on these issues. We seem to be afraid to speak to these issues.Yes there are some protests but these are minor compared to the republicans producing bills in Congress that attack rights protected by the Constitution. Take vouchers for schools.Where is the separation of church and state.? What about teaching creationism in schools? How can we let a gun lobby dictate it's belief system which is opposed by 85% of the people? How can we let a law prohibit contraception but provide viagra for men?Taxation is supposed to be based on ability to pay relative to the advantages our economy has provided the individual.! Billionaires and millionaires have so much more than their needs that they should be willing to contribute to the society that provided their wealth. Regardless if they designed a product, developed a system. or created X without the workforce to make whatever should be compensated for the value they added. I am discussed with our response to these events. Individuals do not appear to care about what they are about to loose. Just look at those who voted for trump and still support him even though it is them who will suffer the most from his programs. Loss of revenue against the national debt;lost of healthcare, attack on their social security, ignoring church vs state , limiting women's rights ,limiting voting rights, etc .Lets really make ourselves heard in any way we can.

One should not be insulted from religious belief or myths as most of religion is based on a belief system reliant on faith and not scientific facts as religion is much older than modern science. I like to think of these ancient stories as an aboriginal dream time stories, like here is Australia. When you consider the need to add magic and miracles to justify the point of the story you probably can see why. But a logical person would see that there is no need for magic to display a parable and question why things like creationism should be taught at schools instead of evolution? Why did Jesus need to perform miracles to prove he was a living god and why is his story so similar to a lot of other Mediterranean gods invented post ice age.

Gravity. Blame it all on gravity.

One theory as I understand it is the Big Bang occurred when two parallel universes briefly overlapped in the same space time and our fledgling universe drew mass and energy from both of them. I agree that given the enormity of this universe mankind is not unique nor is this planet the sole refuge of life. The only caveat I would put on that is that "intelligent" or self-aware life such as humans took over 4 billion years to evolve and, by my guesstimate, will not survive much longer given over population, pollution, atomic weapons and the dangers of random meteors, comets and volcanism among others. Like stars and galaxies that live then die life may have come and gone on distant planets outside the timeframe that our brief existence may have allowed us to encounter or observe. This is especially true of intelligent life that exists so briefly that the possibility of two civilizations in separate solar systems existing simultaneously seems remote. If we exist long enough and our technology allows some kind of interstellar exploration I think we are far more likely to discover life is common in the universe in extraordinary forms but that intelligent life will be much harder to find.

Since life increases entropy, it is deffinately likely that life may have come and gone any number of times throughout the universe.

Regardless of whether or not there are more universes, higher planes or dimensions, or life anywhere else, this Minister’s expounding is presumptuous, although it is of course excusable when delivered in a religious context to religious people.

Try this on for insult and presumption:

Congregant: Rebbe, why did God create the world?
Rebbe: For our pleasure.
Congregant: And what is our pleasure?
Rebbe: To serve God.

What a tiny Universe some people live in!

This is one of the craziest verses I ever read in the Bible:

19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

God creates a universe with 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, creates a man and then brings 3,000,000 species to the man to see what the man he created would name them. I thought this was 100% bullshit when I was a 12 year old boy.

The dangling thread that unraveled the whole church thing for me was being told in Sunday school that it had never rained on earth before the time of Noah because there is no mention of rain in the babble until then. Give me a break!

GareBear, That's a whole lot of nonsense

On top of that, he created mates for all the other animals but only thought of a mate for Adam after he got lonely. Then, instead of making Adam's mate of all new parts like everything else, Adam had to give up a rib. I wonder if he gave up a slab or just one rib bone. Adam, the mother of Eve lol.

spiderwolfmoon, Another excellent point.

Or, we could say that Deuterogenesis (that would be the SECOND creation story) is a poetic just-so story for a simple audience, yet it manages to contain the information that the first people were small-headed, naked frugivores exhibiting estrus but with the beginnings of being able to use symbolic communication to control the environment. Anyone want some fun? Try telling that to the next person who wants to see you saved.
