When something bad happens and someone says "everything happens for a reason", what us your response?

what I want to say: I agree and silently am thankful that someone cares enough about me to lie to me when things are going badly.
what I really do: make an annoyed grunting sound and resist urge to attack their "logic"

Like others have said, things have causes.
The older I get the more random and without reason things seem.
