The error in his logic is that he's assuming the width of the energy beam as what we see as visual light that is radiating from it. It is much more likely that a real light saber would use a beam 1000x+ less wide than what you see. This would just be enough to vaporize a tiny fraction thin line of flesh and produce a cauterized effect. Just sayin'.

Well, it's also the fact that lightsabers are also used to get thru "plasteel" doors & other effects on that scope. Maybe you dial them up & down, depending on use?

When someone gets stabbed with a light saber it leaves a hole the same size as the visual blade width. E.G. Qui-Gon Jinn being stabbed by Darth Maul. This means the effective blade is as wide as the actual colored portion of the blade. There is illumination beyond that which appears more diffused and even whiteish. This is not part of the blade, but the visual byproduct of it.

Light Saber use is not limited to force users, Han uses one in Empire, General Grevious is famously not force sensative. The thing that makes a lightsaber work the way it does are the unique properties of Kyber crystal. The crystals are themselves force sensative. This is what allows the blade to posess such unique properties. Our light saber dreams are all dependent upon the force being real.
