I joined a Facebook group last week called “The intellectual lesbian”. I was excited at the thought of what kinds of logical debate could be had there. Fast-forward to this morning when a poster leaves a rant asking for prayers for some arbitrary cause. I commented with a question about the efficacy of prayer and was utterly sieged upon ???? My hopes of higher-thinking lesbians took a hard casualty and I am asking for you all to keep me in your thoughts today. I sometimes wish that I were hetero...
Sexual identity nor intellectual acumen guarantees tolerance or understanding. I have found that most people get "little baby butt hurt" when their much beloved beliefs/ideas are questioned or threatened. They resort to attacks, usually personal, rarely grounded in fact, and always to defend their tenuous position. So much for intelligent discourse. Welcome to the world of social media.
...and I am sure a lot others do also.
What is Santa Rosa like? Conservative?
Santa Rosa is a bit conservative for being in Caifornia, yes.
That type of thinking is everywhere and with all groups of people, even some that are like minded in other areas.
Let me give an example. When my then husband and I managed a series of apartments for absentee owners, I noticed that a lesbian couple left their apartment in immaculate condition on move out. Should I then theorize that it meant all lesbian couples would do so?
I see your point. I let the title of the group fool me into some kind of expectation i suppose :/
Unfortunately, sexuality doesn't have much correlation with religious beliefs. I need to clarify that statement with one about hardline evangelistic hatred of any sexuality what isn't under their strict control. Evangelists are speaking about power, (power and control); when they condemn types of sexuality.
If 'Intellectual' means anything, it should at least imply an understanding that intercessory prayer won't fix a problem.
My sentiments exsctly...apparently not in this group.
When someone says to me "I'll pray for you", i like to respond, ”Aw, thank you, I'm sure that will make you feel better.".
I love that!
Religious lesbians? Seems self contradictory.
Log cabin republican represents a consistent conjunction of ideas, while religious lesbians, or rather, Christian lesbians seems fundamentally conflicted. @icolan
Being a member of the LGBTQ community does not bring with it the concept of rational or critical thought. They are just as prone to being believers as anyone else and just as capable of an irrational worldview. People are people, after all.
I don't get why some fellow homosexuals are religionists.
@icolan I respectfully disagree. Religious beliefs about gender roles are almost universally hostile, though I will admit liberal theology has emerged on the issue in recent decades. For the most part, religious people tend to look down their noses at people who don't fit the accepted norms, to put it mildly. Also, read Leviticus. It says that the punishment for homosexual sodomy is death. True, it says the same for obstinate children., so I see no reason why anyone who is independent and individualistic would be religious.
