Valentines Day coming up. We're celebrating with poems, stories, and songs. I am looking for suggestions for a good robust poem that is short and is suitable. Any ideas out there?

Reason I keep coming back here is because you guys are that slap in the face that I need to remind me... who I am, who I been.... st valentine day theme keep coming up... I had forgotten I wrote this on 2012, I got like 6 versions with same music. This may be one I like most and then again...

  st valentine day 2012

I remember bad places in my heart
islands floating aimless
in a sea of dark
gardens a flower
didn't have a chance
not even tears from a woman's eyes
could make a rose grow
I know...
you tried

you thought I was crazy
I took it as my own
version of hell
I remember your verdict
but not my sin
why did you leave?

sometimes the last lesson in life you learn
should had been the first
windows never open
doors always close
confessions of this lonely soul

so many broken dreams
so many illusions hang out to dry
and the last thing you saw of me...
was my pride
as I walked out of so many lives
hated and loved alike
this has been my life

they took it all
I didn't gave away
they keep coming back
until I was left with this empty shell
they could bend my spine
but wouldn't break

last place I lay down
could had been
my last resting place

life was moving way too fast
I never been the fastest of trains
in the day a disguise
at night the mascarade

you always did...
what it was best
so you left...
and I moved alone
again on my own

sometimes loneliness
is the best tutor on earth

I am that eleven minute love song
never gets airplay
I am sorry...
repeating you my life story
on saint valentine day

my voice always been this frail
can't hold a note
never learn to play

but if not today...
of all days
you tell me when

ironic as it may seems
this is either karma
or fate

all I offer...
all I bring...
all I ever been...
all it is

a man, his faults and his sins

maybe I just needed to hear it
from your lips

that in your life...
I will never fit in

Anyways…
you can tell your date
He can keep the tip
Tonight I am playing for us…
Or I am playing for free

Here is the first stanza of one of my faves by e.e. cummings:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

Facundo Cabral used to say to his american wife
I love you
I labio
I oreja
I nariz
Only those with bilingual spanish/english background will understand.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'm so glad we are finally through
I much prefer spending time with my cat
Doing what I want and getting fat
If you think this sounds bitter
You should see what I put on twitter

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I take care of myself
How about you?

"In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest,
where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do, and that
sight becomes art"
Rumi

Beautiful...thank you

So many inappropriate limericks just flooded my brain!! There once was a man from Nantucket...

ah! love it!! What are a few romantic but bawdy ones? I do believe they might work well on a Sunday morning.

See my comment...lol

Are you sure? Most women don't really appreciate poetry, unless it's personalized, and from someone they care about.
Or maybe that's just me. I would prefer chocolate covered truffles over poetry any day, though. Or both. I could listen while eating..

There once was a man from Nantucket, with a dick so long he could suck it. He said, with a grin, as he wiped off his chin, "If my ear were a cunt I could fuck it."

Hmm. Not sure it will get the ladies swooning ... but you never know.

@ZebZaman yeah. Not THE most romantic poem.
