In that wrestling match God had to cheat because he could not best Jacob.
Genesis 32
25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[a] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
It is also worthy of note that God did not know with whom he was wrestling. The all powerful, all knowing God did not know who he was fighting and had to cheat to break even, not even to win the fight. What an awesome god,
Now that sounds like some old Roman Mythology there.
@RavenCT That is an excellent observation. The cultures in the area were indeed borrowing from one another. It is often difficult to determine from where ideas originated.
@DavidLaDeau Oh after all those years of Catholic Mass I'm so aware of Druids and Sun Worshipers and... yup!
Ancient religions stolen from to make the masses want the new god.
