I don't understand why people get into huge debt for a degree with which they can't get a decent job. Go to state schools. Do the first couple years in community college. There are less expensive ways to get an education.
Even state schools are phenomenally expensive now. Total cost of attendance where I am enrolled is around $25,000 annually. It is absolutely nuts.
@DoctoralZombie I agree it's crazy. I sent my kids up to Canada. Do you pay tuition for doctoral studies?
Is tuition free in Canada?
@Stephanie99 Yes, as an out of state student I pay tuition. Just an FYI, our generous assistantship stipend is $325 a week, and requires a minimum of 20 hours per week work. As is typical in higher ed, the demands are usually much higher.
@BelieveItNot Tuition in Canada is not free, but it is a lot more reasonable. My daughter went to McGill for less than our local community college.
@DoctoralZombie I did better in Chemistry. I hear that they get $25,000 these days. When I did it, I only taught one tutorial and had an office hour, here. In Canada I did 3 lab sections, if I remember right, maybe 15 hours a week.
I paid mine.?
I paid mine, too, long before that law was enacted. If I went into public service for many years in order to have my student debt forgiven, I would be super pissed. I'm pissed enough as it is that these folks aren't getting what was promised.
me too.
