QUESTION Unification Church (AKA Moonies) Plans Mass Wedding Complete AR-15 Rifles Near A School In Pennsylvania

After hearing the World Peace and Unification Church, known by most as the Unification Church or even more colloquially as Moonies, planned a mass wedding-type ceremony complete with AR-15 semiautomatic rifles, school officials in the Wallenpaupack Area School District decided to relocate the students to a different campus. Heightened religious fervor + guns= bad idea to them. Good judgement call!

I thought the Moonies were long gone. Maybe they need to be Wacoed.

Right...how many of their innocent children do you want us to shoot, burn to death?

@dahermit @BookDeath It was meant as a joke, sorry. I should have been more clear. I think it's repugnant what was done at Waco and Ruby Ridge. If you have read any of my other posts you would know I'm not for this type of attack on innocent kids.

Oh, no. They are just mainstream now. Yikes!

Evacuating a near by school for exercising those rights doesn't seem very smart to me. I'd be willing to bet that nobody is going to go shoot up that wedding seeing as mass murderers tend to pick gun free zones as favorite places to attack.

I find the religious aspect to be the most disturbing part. I'd say "good for them" for keeping easily influenced children away from that, but then I realize they probably don't want the competition for their god.

@BookDeath dubiously trained... so you're saying that anyone who isn't in the military can't learn firearms safety and operation? That is a flat out lie. I'm an instructor of firearms safety and an expert in the field. I've seen members of the military do some pretty stupid things with guns, I've never seen a single one of my students do something stupid with a gun. What about cops? They are always armed, many have never been in the military. I live near by schools, I have lots of guns. They don't move schools because there are people with guns "Near by" here. What exactly is near by? Across the street, down the road, a few miles away? If they are not within 1500 feet of a school zone then the law says it's fine to have a gun. You can even travel through that school zone with a gun, as long as it is not your destination. I'd be willing to bet that thousands of armed citizens do this annually. It seems to me to be a political move that is potentially damaging to these kids feeling of safety. Where does this slippery slope lead?

@BookDeath small arms by definition are not WMDs, neither are artillery, the only thing defined as WMDs are biological, chemical and neuclear/hydrogen bombs. You did say that military personnel are the only ones who should have access to semi-automatic. You can disagree all you want, but you would be absolutely wrong as the second amendment does not agree with you.

@jayneonacobb I spent 11 years in the army, as a reconnaissance specialist. I was qualified with more than a dozen weapons systems and as an instructor for 4 of them. I always laugh when I hear someone say, "He knows a lot about guns because he was in the army." Wow, if only they knew, right?

@JimG lol, right? I built those guns, and many others. I think my degree says I know more than most on the subject, seeing as only 50,000 accredited gunsmiths exist. It's kind of like arguing with a doctor as an EMT about the medical field. Which as a retired EMT, I wouldn't do.
