Modern times highlight that what constitutes a healthy family for raising children goes well beyond the traditional nuclear family. A home where kids are loved, can rely on the adults, have consistency etc... trumps a family full of discord, strife, uncertainty, inconsistency, and even threat.

When I was a kid, the lone divorced family in the school was the town scandal! My kids are surrounded by kids being raised by grandparents, single parents, same sex parents, aunts/uncles... and most are turning out quite well.
