Whats Really Going On With People?
Modernity vs. complacent consumer decisions
With over 20.8 trillion dollars, expanding by 1 trillion every year, the national debt reflects not only what is needed to run government efficiently but also expectations of a consumeristic public. Generally. Consumers want more, not less, bigger luxurious homes and transportation, etc. And they want it for recognition of their hard work or trustworthiness as deferred payment, credit; so does the government. The advantageous silver lining, without looking the gift horse in the mouth, that is.
Doing as the Romans did to sustain the empire means thinking machiavellian in the ‘dog-eat-dog’ fast lanes to success. Stepping over the crowd, or a nation is to keep from getting trampled down. Most effective when one State squashes another as the people choose a side.
Strategic corporate and public policies, it appears, aim to create more consumers who are increasingly wising-up to the environmental and economic consequences of their desires for convenience and dreams of material accumulation. Technology is feeding a world hungry for personal wealth. But at a cost?
I mean, let’s face it. Humanity has chosen the ever elusive quest for a better life in exchange for material wealth. And everybody’s in on it.
‘Time’ has a twenty-first-century version of Plato's’ mystical Atlantis
So, how can we satisfy all the people all the time with a real self-sustaining existence, rather than substitutes? Maintenance of human health, economic and social equality encourage a scientific focus on improving life-spans for contribution to strong cooperation from the masses; globalization is seen as the ‘fail-safe’ solution to avoid falling too far behind. Conquering the heavens in search of habitable planets remains the individual endeavor of all nations looking out their own.
Free and responsible persons, with or without divine intervention, nature, it would seem, has its own pre-set agenda. “All is fair in love and war [and survival of the fittest].” But who’s keeping tabs on the watchers while the seas overflow, depletion of natural resources, global warming, and oh yeah, invasions of authoritarians? With no one person-in-charge - or too many - cooks spoil the soup until it tips over. And once again, as history repeats itself, everybody losses.
Public discourse is an optional message, not a messenger
It is corporate advertisers, media marketers, and partisan public relations that shape opinions, they are the real news agencies under different with different messages. All advocate suggest sustainability of earth creatures, some at the peril of other life forms. And hoping the fountain of youth really exists, yet, is as far off as finding a distant planet capable of sustaining human life, but we insist on trying. We put the humanity in human hope and suggest pleasant fillers until the magic pill is developed.
Deep, consistent repetition, positive or negative, has potential to disrepute mass rejection of anything unacceptable to create complacency, conducting all affairs as a normal business; allocating meaning to an idol, unavoidable, time.
Reap the benefits
It may never be known whether Plato’s Atlantis people ever accomplished immortality. Is a theory intellectual advancement of the dinosaur destroyed the earth really less valid than a meteorite crashing the party? But one thing is sure, no living thing can defeat the swing of nature’s sickle or sword of the ‘pale rider (so the speak).’
However, money or material is not the root of all evil; these are just energies that helps evil flourish. Rather, it is the innate evil in every child, man, and woman that eventually suppress, or compromise the good. If it can be said truly exists on earth. Pessimism intended! I’ll claim the spoils and let everyone else fight over who inherits it when my time comes. Unless that magic pill is developed.
The world as we know it is in its final chapter.
