I NEVER answer calls from unknown numbers! Leave me a message. If it's important enough then they'll call back. It's a great habit to adopt.

Yup be careful but by law they are supposed to give you a opt out choice

Two days ago, I called back a local, unfamiliar number.

It was the Fred Meyer Jewelry Dept. My re-strung pearls were ready to pick up.

Thankfully, my phone says "Scam Likely." A few get through:

"I'm calling about your credit card balance."
(I know my balance is zero.)

Hang up and block the number.
