Just brainstorming a question. Which famous atheist living or dead do you admire? What do you think their best characteristics are? What did they do to contribute to society?
Sam Harris. He’s not a ranter like Hitchens or Dawkins. It’s a struggle for me not get frustrated or angry with the nonsense of the theists, so I appreciate Harris’s calm, matter-of-fact way of engaging with them. I would like to emulate his demeanor, though since I’m already 69 years old, the horse may have already left the barn on that aspiration.
is he the one who wrote a letter to a christian nation?

Billy Joel. Genius songwriter and performer. The example I use when believers say my lack of success is because I turned away from god. "Oh yeah, then how do you explain Billy Joel's success?" Wouldn't a god just take away his talent for not giving him proper praise? I've just had more than my share of bad luck, but I'm Still Trying!
Wow, what rude people. I don’t think anyone lacks success in life, just aims and aspirations not met but that doesn’t indicate failure.
Success is just contributing to the world the best that you can be. Anything more is icing on the top not a burnt fruitcake!
@Geoffrey51 The definition of success is land and society specific. A rich person is successful in America while a government senior post in Cuba is successful. Germany values education above money, politics and other celebrities. For thoughtful people, success is also their own definition. My definition of success is - be a good human being, a good son, good brother, good husband, good father and good citizen of the community I live in.
how would they explain theirs?
We do need someone to re-write the words of all the hymns. Why should the religious corner all the best tunes? Well why should they corner ANY tunes?
Dan Dennett
I watched every Dennett video I could find a few years ago. Very compelling thinker.
