The Cats Trailer Looks Great, You Weirdos

Haters gotta hate.

I fell in love with the "Cats" musical when the beloved, long-running Broadway musical came to Seattle. Even though I loathe cats. The costumes, music and dance were wonderful!

With soaring "Memories" running through my mind, I bought sheet music for flute. Alas, "Memories" is too simple and repetitive; I fell asleep playing it. Still it's an beautiful song.

The trailer for "Cats" looks wonderful and fun. With many stars, I feel excited to see the movie.

People seem to have either a love or a hate relationship with "Cats." I'm sort of "eh" about it; it's one of my least-favorite ALW scores, and the only song from the show that has any legs is "Memory." That being said, it's an odd-enough concept that it works as a theater piece, but even after watching the trailer, I'm not sure how it would work as a movie.

Yeah, "Memory" is about the only thing I really like from the show. Here are my two favorite renditions: Elaine Paige, who originated the role of Grizabella in the West End production in London, and Betty Buckley, who originated it on Broadway (and took home a Tony Award). What I like is there's a lot of subtlety in their performances, which makes the simple melody haunting.

Actually, the song you are referring to, the only hit song from the show, is called Memory and yes, it is simple and repetitive, but when performed well it is really touching and beautiful, even if the song has become a cliche with all the times it's performed at talent shows and elementary school music concerts.

now if they change the name to Pussies, I might go and see that shit.

That would be the XXX porn version, lol. I'm old enough to remember the newspaper ads for those, with their names that were a play on the names of mainstream films they were playing off of.

I have never seen it

I have been enslaved by cats for a number of years. I have given-up long ago trying to escape...there is no hope. They own me.

I am by no means a hater of Cats, but I will pass on seeing this movie version. I am fine with holding to my own memory of seeing it here in Iowa a long time ago with a national tour of it and my dvd recording of it from PBS of a Broadway production of it. I can only assume the film version will not hold up to the older stage versions of it.
