I do seem to remember there being a few 'new' churches in the UK back in the '70s and '80s that were like that, just not as big. I think they were eventually exposed as brainwashing and forced to shut down. I also have witnessed the tongue talking rubbish, I felt it deeply embarrassing as I felt no compulsion to do it and I suspected most pretended to do it, to fit in, or to prove that they were just as holy.

I did attend a born again church which practised speaking in tongues, although they said that no one should speak in tongues unless there was an interpreter present. I enjoyed their company, unfortunately failed to speak in tongues.

"...unless there was an interpreter"!?!?!? HAHAHA! Good one! How exactly does one determine there is a proper interpreter for "tongues?" Does one go to training? Get certified? I'm not criticizing YOU, just noticing the ridiculousness of it all. My own mother was one of those people who fancied herself a prophet of sorts, and she would often act as "interpreter" during worship services in church. Just crazy. Literally, she was finally diagnosed as bipolar I in her mid-50s. It explained a lot.
I left due to work commitments. It was the first time I had come across such beliefs and activities. I looked on them as "nice" people with some odd practices.
I just wanna know what's going on with that tongues thing? I thought it was like a high you can get analogous to Arabic women ululating (think that's what you call it ?)
It does seem to be women more than men or is that just my impression?
Didn't realise there was anything to interprete?? Just thought it was noise and sort of nonsense such as when you speak to a baby or a dog? Are you telling me they think they get revelation this way ??

We have the psychological barriers up across the English channel. We originally erected it for European Catholics but now we use it for American evangelists!! Lol
