I am sure many of us wish we could do this. I had never heard of them before.
Good Writers and Editors can always find work or ways to be heard. Keep in touch and you will find an outlet for your valued works..
You work to retire as soon you can and when you can... DO.
I've quit several jobs for much the same reasons.
There were times I did it when I probably shouldn't have, but I did
it anyway, for my own peace of mind.
I've always refused to be treated like shit (for long). If I felt I was being
undervalued, mistreated, disrespected, or taken advantage of, I walked.
I always confronted "management" on my way out, too.
No one ever wondered "why?" I was leaving.
Even had one supervisor ask me if I was giving my "two weeks notice".
I asked her if I were being fired, would I be given two weeks notice?
When she said "no", I told her, "Well, then. There ya go. Bye."
When I was treated well, I stayed and was a loyal employee.
I was always honest, worked hard, and did my job as I was expected.
I admire and respect the writers who quit Deadspin, and the Sonic.
I respect the workers who went on strike at GM.
Part of the reason the economy is in such a disastrous state is because
of the demise of unions. Employees are no longer protected the way
they used to be.
"At will" states don't care about employees. It's ALL about cowtowing to
the corporations now.
For as much as I didn't ask for my disability, and forced retirement, I'm
glad I don't have to put up with being someone else's employee anymore.
All that said, I have to say just how fucking satisfying it is to tell an
asshole to take their job and shove it.
Very satisfying
I have also never heard of them. Walking off your job may send a powerful message but the one it sends to me is "no paycheck." I don't like living with other people too much.
Yes the no paycheck thing is the hard part. Stand for your principles but how to live while you do it
Some would point out this is where capitalism meets slavery. You're paid only enough so you can't afford to leave.
