7 counterarguments in response to anyone who blames the baby bust on women or millennials
I love how our current "leaders" are so intent on keeping motivated (immigrant) workers out, who is going to mind the shops, harvest the drops, etc...oh, wait, there won't be any consumers......
For the past several days, my Facebook feed, Twitter timeline, and evening news have been filled with stories on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest report about the declining birth rate of U.S. women.
Despite the breadth of the data included in its January 2019 vital statistics update, the CDC statistic generating the biggest headlines is the one that calculates the birth rate in the U.S. to be 16 percent below the amount needed to replace our population over time.
Most of the stories dominating the news cycle have sensational, clickbait headlines: “Women in the U.S. Are Having Fewer Babies” (Time); “U.S. Fertility Rates Have Plummeted Into Uncharted Territory, and Nobody Knows Why” (Science Alert); “The U.S. Is in the Danger Zone for a ‘Demographic Time Bomb’” (Insider); and “Florida, U.S. Have a Baby Problem” (Orlando Sentinel). Among my personal favorites are the headlines where women are blamed as if it’s all immaculate conception — “Women Aren’t Having Enough Babies to Replace Ourselves” (Moms).
But all of the news noise is missing the glaringly obvious facts that every millennial I know recognizes immediately. Here are seven real reasons behind the declining birth rate:

You can just close that box and read. But I copied and pasted for you, see my comment.
@HippieChick58 No box to close on my pc.
Thank you so much.
That is shockingly stunning!!!! I had 3 kids, & it only cost us the gas in the car to get to the hospital!!! Our medical covers all of it!!!!
I have had many surgeries, & the only thing I had to pay for was the pre-surgical soap!!!!
@Lilac-Jade Two of my babies and my gall bladder removal were done in military hospitals. The youngest was born at a civilian hospital and we were out a few more bucks for her. I work in hospital billing now, OMG, crazy! My kids are planning at most two kids. Day care costs as much as college.
@HippieChick58 I really don't know how you guys do it.
I had ruptured appendix, lumbar laminectomy, breast reductions, tubal ligation, gall bladder, full mastectomy, 2 hip replacements, & several scopes.
@Lilac-Jade Wow!! Still have all the original female parts, they're just holding their spaces. I have had colonoscopies. My gall bladder was taken out before the laparoscope was invented, 1982. I guess I've been lucky. My mom died at 45 of ovarian cancer. I work for a hospital, but I don't like to see doctors except when I'm fully clothed.
@HippieChick58 Well frankly, I'm a bit poked & prodded worn out, but I'm still grateful we didn't go bankrupt over it all.
@Lilac-Jade I talk to families every week that are considering bankruptcy for their medical bills. Crazy system we have.
@HippieChick58 What a terrible thing for needing medical care.
