Political Morals

Recently, I read an article where a priest had stated that politicians don't need high morals to be good leaders and that sometimes, poor morals are actually preferable.

Should politicians be held to a higher standard than the general population?

They should be held to the highest moral standards, they are in a highly vulnerable position where their ethics can be bought or otherwise compromised.
