"Parasite Director Negged His Way to Best Picture." Huh?

What does "negged" mean? Urban Dictionary was no help.

"Negging is an act of emotional manipulation whereby a person makes a deliberate backhanded compliment or other negative comment to another person to undermine their confidence and increase their need of the manipulator's approval. The term was coined and prescribed by pickup artists." (Wikipedia)

To explain this stupid headline, the tag line says, "Bong Joon-ho played hard to get."

Apparently the writer Sam Adams is trying to look hip and "with it." Are his editors asleep? Or am I hopelessly behind the times?

I feel like Don Quixote tilting at windmills. As Strunk and White wisely advised:

Write clearly. Omit needless words.

Your thoughts?

Unless Mr Boon spent a lot of time trashing the members of the Hollywood foreign press, then that idiot is using words he doesn't understand.

I think you've just "negged" the rest of us.
