This article in the Atlantic seems to think that the never trumpers will forge a coalition with the conservative democrats in Congress.

I disagree because I think the never trumpers enjoy the economic benefits of the trump administration too much not to continue to cave in.

I’d agree with you. It was incredible how fast the (so called) Never-trumper’s spines were removed! And humans (if barely) are not capable of growing new ones..

I didn't read the article... I'm commenting on the post. Let's not forget were these so-called "economic benefits" came from: TRILLION$ in tax reductions (which are BORROWED money out progeny will pay interest on FOREVER) to the wealthy and large corporations; elimination of regulations that protected our environment, our air, our water, all our Earth's inhabitants; elimination of numerous consumer protection regs that protected our checkbooks; elimination of health insurance benefits; caving-in (or even catering to) BIG Pharma, BIG oil and BIG business, giving them exactly what they wanted; favoring Wall St over Main St;... the list is endless.
Basically, SOME OF US (the ones who did NOT need it), but not most of us, have enjoyed the fruits of the "economic benefits" at the astronomical costs of selling our souls, ignoring our infrastructure, stripping our people's health (of which this COVID adventure is an example... you don't sell, or fail to fund your fire department) and think you've improved the country. Trump has destroyed the foundation and reputation of the US and made us a 3rd rate player in the world. Most people probably know that in their heart. No, we're not better-off than we were 3-years ago. We'll be 20-years recovering, if ever. The enormous losses caused by Trump will continue through the next few Administrations, whether Dem or Rep.

I would agree with your viewpoint. Most people put their own privilege and wealth ahead of voting for someone who might be more competent or fair in how they govern. I am an exception, but that's because I'm a socialist and I identify or ally with those lower on the economic scale rather than just those at my level or higher. Unfortunately most Americans only identify with their own economic class or those above them.

To me this is completely beside the point.
Call Trump anything you like. He draws his talent from the conventional Republican ranks.
With him in power, the anti-abortion/NRA types are in a superior position, as is the usual Hoover/Heritage crowd.
That's why the anti-Trumpers will shut up and play ball.

There are very few “never Trumpers” in Congress at this point. If you watch how they shut Romney out of the Party when he didn’t bow to Dear Leader, the fear of the Trumplicans is real and powerful. Don’t expect any great move to the center while Trump is in office. Only those fighting him from the outside and not planning on running for office anytime soon will make a stand.

I would vote for my last bowel movement before I would vote for Trump....but then I'm not really enjoying any of the economic benefits of Trumps administration.

I'm enjoying some of them, but I want more for those less well off than me and I was want more economic security for us all.

@TomMcGiverin Wow. You want OTHERS to benefit? Why, that's just nutty. You must be some kind of revolutionary!

@JayOleck38 No, just a proud socialist. I know how un-American that sounds to most people and I get your snark....Seriously tho, not all of us boomers sold out and became selfish and greedy. However, too many, probably most of us, did....That's why most of the boomers voted for Biden over Bernie in the primaries. I am sad and disgusted at my generation for that.

@TomMcGiverin I am the ruler of snark >🙂 But I know a few older people who voted for Biden. Most of them seem to like Bernies policies but think that Biden is the more electable candidate. Yeah, I'll take him over little Lord Cheetodick, but mostly because his particular form of dementia makes him more pliable and puppet-like. Trumps form of dementia makes him a self-aggrandizing narcissist who'll kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians before he admits that he's wrong.
