In Australia we have done well. Of course we haven't had state and federal authorities at each other's throats; we haven't had people storming parliaments with assault rifles crying out liberty or death!; we haven't had our leaders advising drinking bleach or shining torches into their open chests; we haven't had leaders saying that maybe testing isn't really that important; we haven't had leaders calling it a hoax, and we haven't had leaders saying absolutely contradictory things contrary to facts, science and the evidence.

I believe those things have happened in some countries /country.
