As COVID-19 continues to make news with the number of infections and number of deaths, a little discussed aspect of this disease are those who become infected and survive. Their survival is a good thing but they are often left with residual effects which can be severe. It isn't the same as recovering from a cold or the flu. No doubt, this story is about a very severe case. Other survivors may have significantly less lasting damage to their lungs, but it is lasting and permanent damage none the less.
