The Administration is saying that stopping the special unemployment benefits of $2400 a month is to "incentivize" workers to go back to work. Interesting choice of words, "incentivize". It's not an incentive, it's actually an attempt to "force" workers back to work because they won't be able to feed their families. An "incentive" would be offering them something positive to encourage, not taking away something that forces them to do something that is demonstrably dangerous.
Human life and well-being is worth less than corporate profits in America and it's becoming more and more obvious every day.
It's hard to see where any common good comes from taking the food away from people's kids, and forcing a bunch of defaults and foreclosures. If you die they won't have to give you unemployment when they install the robots. I guess that's the kind of incentive they think we need.
Trump and the Republicans are managing a biological war against America for another country. That explains his actions without any more need for explanation.
In my state, with a Repub governor and legislature, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Go back to work and risk your health and life (as well as those you live with)- no matter how high risk the workplace or job- or lose your UE benefits.
Exactly.
It is a stick, not a carrot.
Incentivizing people to get back to work in a pandemic would be doing things like providing business with PPE so employees can work in safer conditions, providing technical hardware and IT services to help companies allow more employees to work from home, and finally passing universal health care so people can take the risk of working knowing that they will be covered if they do get sick.
What they are doing is threatening citizens with homelessness and starvation if they refuse to work in dangerous conditions.
Totally agree. I'm just amazed that they aren't being called out for it by the media. They are treating people as if they are "lazy" and not "concerned for their lives". It's what happens when you have billionaires and millionaires running the country. They have no way to empathize with those that aren't doing well because they think poverty is a personality flaw as opposed to an economic condition brought on by a particular type of economic system.
I'm not surprised at all. The corporate media is just the propaganda wing of the dempublican party.
The terrible thing is, they have so many people brainwashed with these Reaganomic principles that they won't call out their leaders and some will even push back on those who do.
