In Ireland where I live the Bars are still closed and we only have 22 cases per day. (5 Day Average)
If you want to get rid of this Virus, Bars have to stay closed until it's nearly disappeared.

The NSW Australia experience.

@FrayedBear Australia has done a great job from what I know. I have some extended family out there and they seems to be on top of it

@dermot235 So much on top of it that they let boatloads of infected people spread it round the country instead quarantining them . Those they quarantined in hotels frequently broke quarantine. They have only just got round to mandating that people wear masks & that was only in Victoria from midnight yesterday!

I'm in Florida and I don't get how bars are being closed because of the explosion of infections, but churches are still free to hold services. At least bars and gyms contribute taxes and help the economy. 🙄

Alcoholics are needed for the continuance of humanity - as you say taxes but also labour & reproduction. Godbotherers are surplus to requirements and so like the senicide of the elderly are being targeted & encouraged to become C19 infected!

If Bars and Gyms spread the Virus, that will not help your economy. It will prolong the agony. It's a bad idea to open Bars or Gyms when you have over 70,000 cases a day and not enough testing

@dermot235 I agree completely. I do think that if we are closing businesses, we should also close churches too.

@Dorkyndaft I agree that attending places of worship should be banned during any Pandemic. They serve no purpose during normal times, never mind during a Pandemic

Alcohol and Cigarette sales are banned due to covid-19 until further notice.
One of the Hospital’s emergency department, tells us the numbers don’t lie. In the one week since the ban; 100 assaults down to 36; 200 car accidents down to 20; from 100 pedestrian accidents to 7.

Apologies had to edit. Our gyms, restaurants, bars, pubs and all still closed.

@dermot235 Testing won't particularly help other than quaranting those who do not know that they are infected. The big positive is to isolate contacts by tracing.

@TimeOutForMe Which city of terror do you live in? Sounds like the pandemic is better than no pandemic. With figures like that you normally vote with your feet but I guess that it is the same throughout the country.

@FrayedBear I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.
If you must know, South Africans consume the highest amount of alcohol in the world.

@FrayedBear Testing does help at the suppression stage. When you test at the start you are just finding out what percentage are positive in the community. Social distancing is your weapon at that point. But when you test after suppression, you are chasing down the Virus and finding out exactly where the Virus it so you can return to normal. You need lots of testing and contract tracing to do this effectively. So in Ireland we do 50,000 tests per week to find just 150 or so cases per week.

@TimeOutForMe That must be why they all try to come to Australia!

@TimeOutForMe Fellow barrel dwellers.

@dermot235 Ok but how many cases are missed but still infecting others and never traced?

@FrayedBear @dermot235
Or they are tested too early and get a false negative. I have seen this with the clientele I work with. They find out they've been exposed and immediately get tested, which comes back negative, and then start showing symptoms days later. In any case, if people are not willing to take basic, protective measures, then testing is of minimal use for anything but data.

@FrayedBear Every case discovered is then contract traced out. Our daily rate is not really increasing so that proves we are catching all the cases we need to, to stay open

@FrayedBear
I think some "run away" to Australia too.
...and the reasons are obvious since you already know they're fellow barrel dwellers, so not from alcohol.

@dermot235 I hope so.

@TimeOutForMe Barrel dwellers usually remove the alcoholic content in order to dwell. LMAO
Here's Ted Egan singing about the drinkers of the Northern Territory. Roger lives in a sort of barrel, an old water tank, in this version drinking metho with sal vital another version has him taking strychnine before his dinner:

. . . someone posted the article containing this a week-or-so ago, seems informative.

I would prefer research like this be done and published by national/international orgs and updated frequently.

I missed the previous post & it wasn't in 2 of the groups I've used.

Grocery shopping is a 3. That's fairly high. I do it once a week.

Not surprising when people don't wear masks or apply social distancing as in Australia.

@FrayedBear Yeah, well you don't have an idiot who is clearly unhinged running things. Nor do you have fox, oann and other far right media pumpin' out propaganda porn at such an alarming rate. Here in WA State there is a mandatory edict (FINALLY!!!).

@silverotter11 It has taken until now for one state Premier to mandate mask use. So as some of them & the country's Prime Minister are Trumpeteers I'm not sure that there is difference. We also have Murdoch & several other entrenched biased media. Even Reuters is biased.

@FrayedBear Everyone has to wear masks in my state indoors.

@barjoe If by "indoors" you mean shops, offices & public buildings Imo I quite agree. If that includes your home & particularly if you live alone IMO it's rubbish!
We have just been ordered to wear masks on leaving the front door which suggests also whilst driving.

@FrayedBear Of course it's referring to public indoor spaces.

So wear a mask and get it lower (Your risk that is)

I do a little shopping 2 to 3 times a week so I can fool myself into believing that I did not spend much money. 🙂
