The British made a similar move back in history...in India. Sepoys ''impressed'' into British service discovered to their horror that the ammunition they were given (which needed to be activated with their teeth) was coated with animal fat...pork included. This was a HUGE deal!
Just another example of authoritarian disrespect for the non-Christian world.
