We Must Learn to Embrace Populism

BY
AARON LAKE SMITH

"Thomas Frank’s brilliant new book The People, No focuses on the long elite tradition of anti-populism. But it is really an urgent plea to liberals and radicals alike to embrace a left populism and universalism — or keep on losing."

So much truth. We need a progressive party that focuses almost exclusively on economic issues, the environment, war, and civil liberties. Fuck all the identity politics of the two major parties. A party that is about saving the planet, providing college education for all, economic justice, ending permanent war, and reversing the post 9-11 cancelling of our civil liberties, and getting money out of politics are all issues that the masses would be crazy supportive of. It would thankfully destroy the Dem party.
