Necessary for what? What would happen if you didn't? The child would go nameless? I don't get it.

I actually don't understand. I assume there is some kind of ceremony for naming a baby, but I'm not familiar with it. I have no idea what the consequences would be for skipping it.

If it is a cultural tradition then it may be necessary. If it is a fad then no. 🙂

I guess you have those in the Phillipines? I have never seen one here in the US

Rielwise I guess they just wanted to do that to honor their act. TO each his/her own
