I don't do people places, so unexplored beaches and creeks for me.

My wife and I went to the island of Curacao last year. Most people have never heard of it. A small island 20 miles north of South America. I don't recommend going there because I got Salmonella food poisoning from eating pork, and was in the hospital for five days after we got home. Worst vacation ever! My wife was lucky she didn't eat the pork.

Since I'm directionally-challenged, I love hiking with Karen, who has a compasses embedded in her brain. She always gets us back to the car.

Karen and I explore new trails high in the mountains. Climbing steeply, we discover spectacular mountain views, wildflowers and high alpine lakes.

Anywhere with my husband. We are planning a road trip in a couple of months that I am really excited about. We haven't gone on a long road trip in forever.

New Mexico has its share of ghost towns. I like to poke around in places like that. Really old graveyards where they write more than their name and lifespan. Deep woods

I love the National Parks. I have visited 10 of them and I will say that Yosemite, Yellowstone and Acadia are my favorites.

If you're ever in California look up Los Padres National Forest.

I love exploring the American Southwest. A couple of years ago I discovered Jerome, AZ, an old mining town now coverted into an artist colony. Very cool.

On that same trip I visited Sedona, and even though it was beautiful, it felt too commercialized.

I like the little towns and quaint places, too, but my favorite places to explore are those pplaces in my mind which harbor unhealthy thoughts and feelings. I love the feeling when I discover and deal with them so they disappear.

As a city boy myself, never was that interested in the country or small towns etc. I love NYC, but haven't had the chance to go their in years now. The other place I enjoyed frequenting was Atlantic City NJ, and hitting the casinos there. Just about every sort of vice one could imagine could be found in AC NJ, which is why I enjoy myself there. That's certainly cool though if you enjoy visiting lesser known or forgotten places, that's different. I know someone who used to like visiting abandoned homes, and once he stumbled across an abandoned hospital.

One of my favorite places has to Eagle, Colorado. It has mountians to climb, trails to hike and lakes to fish in.

A person named Rick Steves (lives N. of Seattle) started his travel company, "Europe through the back door" on just that premise. One amazing place I lived, Heidelberg" Germany got taken off of his list because it became too touristy. Personally, I try to avoid the overcrowed, overhyped places. I enjoy road trips especially when it takes me to smaller towns.

I did a lot of exploration when there was someone to take with me. Either an ex-girlfriend, my kids, or the whole group.

With the kids especially, I did remote trails, small towns, and wilderness. My daughter inherited or learned my spontaneity, but now she leads the expeditions and drags her husband and dogs along. She lives on the opposite side of the country now, but I am glad that I instilled a spirit of adventure in her.

If you're looking for forgotten places I would just get in your car and drive.

When my ex-husband and I had a 650 Yamaha we would go exploring we called it. Drive on dirt roads having no idea where they went -no gps back then-no maps and it was fun.Never had a clue where we would end up NH, MA, VT - 3 state area. I love exploring new places and backroads in New England.
