LINK The Supreme Court is Delivering Victories for White Christian Intolerance | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos

Which should be granted primacy in America’s secular republic: freedom of religion or from religion?

It’s a daunting question that recently has even bedeviled U.S. Supreme Court justices, the crux of a compelling article by Ron Brownstein in The Atlantic last week, titled “The Supreme Court Is Colliding With a Less-Religious America.” The subhead projects how this “collision” might play out: The justices will intensify their push for “religious liberty.”

If you will read the scotus ruling, you will see the following.

The churches and synagogues (c&s for short) were in a yellow zone and allowed 25% and 35% in buildings designed for up to 1000 people, they’d been using safe practices (masks, etc) and there’d been no infections.

Cuomo changed the zones to red and orange, limiting the c&s to 10% and 25%. The c&s protested and filed the lawsuit.

Cuomo let the c&s go back to 25% and 35% so the case was moot (unnecessary).

The conservatives, not trusting government, supported the higher numbers so Cuomo would not lower them again.

Roberts and the three liberals, trusting government and seeing the case was moot, did nothing, allowing Cuomo to lower the numbers again. If he were to lower them, the c&s would have to file another lawsuit.

Cynics can impute a purpose and say scotus is delivering victories for white xian intolerance.

Just remember, this is another reason to hope Georgia elects the two Democrats: there are several Justices on the Court old enough to have health failures in the next four years. If Biden can get one, or better yet, two appointments over his first term in office it could bring the Court back to closer to neutral at least. We need those Senate seats!

Religious fanatics on the court, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Thomas, Barrett and to a lesser degree Roberts. All Catholics.

@linxminx Things change. People die.

@barjoe Hopefully some before others.

@barjoe I like your new pic. You look human.
