I need an island where I can escape from Thanksgiving til New Years.. I suspect I'm not the only one here who feels this way. The christmas cards and letters.. the constant assault of christmas carols, the crowds, the socializing, the forced merriment. And of course the dinner invitations that conclude with "Oh... by the way... can you bring a casserole?" Ugh! I can't wait til it's over. C'mon New Year's!

Welcome to the Island of Agnostica. Grinches only, please.

How do YOU feel about Christmas?

Stay home, and turn off your phone. Don't answer the door bell.

Oh I never answer the doorbell... but the phone ....no can do 🙂

@TheoryNumber3 I understand.....I screen my calls. If it is one of my children, I answer. If I don't recognize the number I don't answer. If it is important they can leave a message and I can call back.

@nicknotes 3/4 of my calls are from scammers and telemarketers and I have several programs blocking unidentified numbers. They ring once before they're blocked and the callers never leave a message. Of course they also screen out important calls as well from doctors and such, but they always leave a msg so I can get back to them.

@TheoryNumber3 The past 2 months did you get calls everyday wanting to review your Medicare options?

@nicknotes Of course! which I had already done a month prior. Sorry for the late response. I think my notifications are not coming through.

I just don't participate...I have no pressure...

Sort of the same. The carols are the worst! There are a couple of jazzy ones I can handle, or Frank Sinatra but that's it.
Helping at a holiday potluck with some friends is not too bad but please just leave the baby jesus out of it.
I did score some good sales on cyber Monday, things I needed but otherwise shopping at this time is a bitch.
Um, did not realize I was such a Grinch.
The pandemic has dampened things for many and then there are those who want to see just how much of a super spreader event they can make it.

Isn't it sad that so many people OD'd on the koolaid?

I like the lights.

You don't live across the street from my neighbor. It looks like a cross between a bordello and a discotheque.

@TheoryNumber3 That would work for me if there are no inflatables.

@Sticks48 I just checked. You're good 🙂

@TheoryNumber3 Thanks 🙂

I go through this every year! Actually this year may be one of my better ones. My sister and her husband won’t be here to put up decorations (I stopped doing that years ago), so nothing to take down afterwards. Mom is in a nursing home with no visitation, so we will have our regular FaceTime chat like any other day. My son and his family are busy with their own things. This is as close as I will get to eliminating Christmas, New Years and my birthday ever! 😁

So there is an upside to Covid 🙂

@TheoryNumber3 only if your livelihood doesn’t depend on tips, travel or social activities. Mine does not, so it’s all good.

I'm kind of grateful for Covid this year. Perfect excuse for all that nonsense to me. I'd like the island year round, however. I'm not saying I'm a hermit. I do use meetup groups for plays, etc when there isn't a pandemic.

Agnostic Island sounds like a good place to get away!

That sounds like an excellent get away ,you should do it twice a year 6 months at a time 🙂

I don't exactly hate the holidays but, as an extreme introvert, I do find this time of year can be exhausting. In a typical year, sans pandemic, I'd maybe go to a small party or family gathering, but I have energy enough for only one or two of those spanning six weeks. A few years ago, I even stopped sending Xmas cards. Before then, I was writing lengthy personalized messages; even for the handful of people I was sending to, it was a lot of work. Now, I just keep my head down throughout the holidays and I'm far less drained when January rolls around.

Feeling for you ,Take care and enjoy what you enjoy

@RoyMillar Thanks! Once the holidays are over, things seem more manageable and less exhausting.

I also stopped sending cards years ago. That was very freeing!!

Still like the general thought of helping others

bobwjr Level 10 Dec 13, 2020

That is always a good thought at any time of the year and has nothing to do with religion just being a good human being

Truth is, I'd like to see more of the helping and less of the crass commercialism. And Christmas is the most profitable holiday for merchants and manufacturers.

Enjoy the goodies! Thank Jesus for giving you holidays...and hum along when they sing carols just for their music value!

Mimee Level 6 Dec 13, 2020

I need to borrow some of that attitude 🙂

Whoa, @Mimee

Xianity stole most of the holidays from earlier human delusions.
