LINK Books on Holocaust should be balanced with 'opposing' views, school leader tells teachers

Of course it's TX.

"A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News."

Crazy! It's a way for republicans to produce and sneak in propaganda supporting the holocaust, supporting slavery, supporting race, gender and religious discrimination, rather than teaching truth, respect, equality, freedom and critical thinking. Glad to know the story is shocking so many rational people in other states, so hopefully will not catch on with other school districts.

Gina Peddy, the Carroll school district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction, made the comment Friday afternoon during a training session on which books teachers can have in classroom libraries. The training came four days after the Carroll school board, responding to a parent’s complaint, voted to reprimand a fourth grade teacher who had kept an anti-racism book in her classroom.

“Teachers are literally afraid that we’re going to be punished for having books in our classes,” an elementary school teacher said. “There are no children’s books that show the ‘opposing perspective’ of the Holocaust or the ‘opposing perspective’ of slavery. Are we supposed to get rid of all of the books on those subjects?”

Exactly this. What is the "opposing perspective" on racism, for instance? That it doesn't exist anymore, or that it's basically OK and how people are supposed to feel? We know that the biological & evolutionary roots of racism and ethnic warfare are based on genes for kin selection, but is that an excuse to perpetuate it? Aren't we now more than our programming?

It's back to the false narratives of benevolent masters, happy slaves and manifest destiny.

What's the opposing view? The "6MWE" people? (Which stands for "6 Million Weren't Enough", an acronym I had never encountered before last week 😟 )

There were a number of insurrectionists wearing graphic T shirts and sweats similar to that on J6.

@BufftonBeotch It was in Woodward's book Peril that I first came across this, in the chapters on January 6. I have not been able to stomach much footage of the event, it sickens me.

I read that article. I am going to say it. As batsgit crazy are the right wing Christian extremists Texas morons are.....I don't get this one.

Most of them are very anti semitic. They only support Israel and Jerusalem being the capitol and the rebuilding of the temple, because that is when they think Jesus will come back and slaughter all the Jewish people. And all the other the other nonbelievers too.

If we are going down the path of balanced opposing views, then Gina Peddy should also be recommending the Quran, "The God Delusion", Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and Shinto.

What prize idiots employed her as a school administrator in the first place? Oh, I forgot, this is just what happens in Texa$$!

She may have been just trying to make a point about how absurd the new policies were, but she did a piss poor job of it.

What's really sad is the fact that that is most likely the dominant viewpoint in that town.
