Most Americans simply don't understand how out of control America's foreign policy has been since WW2, driven entirely by war profiteers, domestic politics, and ideology. I particularly liked this quote: "From funding the mujahideen in Afghanistan to arming the so-called moderate rebels in Syria, constantly putting the figurative Vladimir Lenin in a train car to St. Petersburg is not a viable grand strategy for US foreign policy. This type of geopolitical trickery creates a multitude of unintended consequences that are detrimental to US security in the long term." And it's not going to change anytime soon. I still remember Carter's unsuccessful effort to restrain our foreign policy and military involvement.
We fight them, we leave, they get to keep our weapons so they can fight us again or somebody else. Every war creates new enemies and therefore new security threats. Meanwhile our own country falls further and further behind with our structural and social infrastructures.
