There was a report on NPR, this morning, about this. I doubt Facebook will cease to be called facebook as it has become globally recognized.

When I was on the board of the local ZPG at one time they also decided to change the name (after some 35 years) to the population connection. They said Zero Population Growth was too depressing. BS, the name change was simply a diversionary tactic as the new leader wanted to water down the mission and sold out to corporate money.

So this is in a Nietzschean manner how the simulated universe starts again? With Zuck the sociopath from Harvard as God? The Torah with its horrors suddenly makes more sense.

Will it be monotheistic from the start? Or Zuck, Gates, and Musk? Who eventually sends themself through a virgin to be crucified to save the metaverse from them?

A new name won't change Facebook's bad reputation.

I agree and think that changing the name of a company, an act or a person, may make the same more socially accpetable or repulsive. However, it does not alter facts of history but it is a long established method used by base orators/politicans and advertisers. Often it promotes the illusion of something new, something better, a new discovery and remains nothing other than window dressing.

@David1955 I agree wholeheartedly. When I consider what sports celebrities earn off and on the field in comparison to what a research scientist earns, it makes me wonder about the value societies place on entertainment. With regard to Facebook, clearly, there is a market for garbage when it is packaged and dressed up.

Mark Zuckerberg refused to appear for questioning before the UK Parliament. "A Facebook offical offered either Chief Technololgy Officer Mike Schroepfer or Chief Product Officer Chris Cox." Of course, Mark Zuckerberg would have been well out of his deepth and he knew it. He is someone who is only used to treading in the shallow deepths of the gutter. Like all rich cowards he prefers to hide behind a bunch of shyster lawyers. There is no shortage of them in his neck of the woods where justice is determined by a bank balance.
