LINK ‘There’s no way to hide history’: Teachers react to Georgia law limiting discussion of race

In Georgia, Black educators are disheartened. They are insulted. Most of all, they are mad.

A new law, signed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, restricts teachers from teaching students about race and racism. According to the text of HB 1084, this includes any discussions that “the United States of America is fundamentally racist,” “any other form of race scapegoating or race stereotyping,” or “espousing personal political beliefs.” The law “prevents divisive concepts and ideologies from invading the classroom” and removes “obscene materials” from school libraries.

It does not address, however, how violations would be enforced or what the ramifications would be.

I have nephew living in that fucked up state. I hope he and his girlfriend out of that state soon.

Everywhere you turn lately conservatives in the U.S. are trying to ban something. Conservatives so often claim to be all about rights and personal freedom yet their actions show them to be quite the opposite.

If it were up to conservatives U.S. history would be something like... Columbus discovered America, the pilgrims came over and spread Christianity and freedom, the Confederacy rose up to fight for state rights but the Union won (but just barely and only by cheating), the U.S. single handedly won every war for the next 150 years, then Trump was elected and everything was magical until the liberals ruined it by inventing political correctness.

They should teach history. Not CRT.

Republicans are so afraid of actual history! They live in a bubble of their Disney whites only stories and don’t want their children to grow up knowing what is outside that bubble. I am sure Russian kids are indoctrinated the exact same way. Thanks to Republicans we are becoming a little more like Russia every day. At the end of the Cold War it was hoped that Russia would adopt a more democratic style government. Instead the West is becoming ever more a one Party dictatorship. Our chances to stop it are growing slimmer every year.
