To be completely honest and objective, the planet is doing just fine, it's gone through much more severe upheavals in the past and whatever grungy life forms are skittering around it's surface are probably not much of a concern to something as awesome as a planet.
@Garban From a planetary perspective we are just dust in the wind at best and a bad case of fleas at worst. (kudos to George Carlin). I think the politicians would have a better chance of getting people to understand how human induced climate change is going to make the planet uninhabitable to humans, if they stopped calling it A Threat to the Planet and started calling it A Threat to Humanity that We Caused and We are the Only Ones who can Fix It. Granted the Planet will suck up all of those Green House Gases and other Toxins from our brief spin around the planet and the Planet will be just fine and ready to accept other life forms that come out of our Human Stupidity around Environment Degradation.
Humans are just a link in the chain of life on this planet. We were not the first and won't be the last, unless we find a way to destroy the planet it should be just fine. Everything that humans have created has come from the planet and eventually will return to it.
Nope, people who have more money than they could spend in hundreds of lifetimes would be slightly less rich. Can't have that.
Although we have experienced this in history many times, it typically involves elite heads in baskets or elite heads on pikes or elite parts on something similar. You would think that such clever folks would take a page out of history and learn from their mistakes.
