Poking fun (mostly) of Herschel Walker...
The people chose him for their candidate because his god is more like them than Warnock's god. I think they're both bad candidates as Preachers should not be in political offices.
There’s always going to be lunkheads to vote for them, sadly.
@CuddyCruiser I understand the practical allowances but if Dems have to acknowledge Jesus, or a savior in general, in order to get elected then that bothers me.
I agree that I would prefer that ministers not be in high office, but if one of them is still a moral, ethical person with integrity, as well as similar policy positions as me, then I will gladly vote for them as a better choice than the typical lying, hypocritical, heartless folks that run as Repubs.
@TomMcGiverin None of them can put the nation's interest over that of god's, if it comes down to it, even if it coincidentally serves mine.
@rainmanjr I don't give a shit about their religion, as long as they pursue policies that serve the common good, not just my personal interests.
@rainmanjr The sad, practical fact, is that any elected office that is high enough to have actual, real campaigns, in which the candidate is asked about religion, requires, in America, that the candidate at least claim to be religious in some way, Christian, Catholic or whatever. Because in America almost nowhere can a candidate for a higher office get away with being openly Agnostic or Atheist, or even claim to be non-religious. For example, it seems very obvious to me, after following Bernie Sander for years in the news and even hearing him speak in person several times, that he is a cultural Jew, but most likely an Atheist or Agnostic, certainly not religious or a believer in any religion, but he has always coyly avoided identifying himself as non-religious or a non-believer, because he knows it would be political poison for him if he ever ran for president, even more than his label of being a democratic socialist.
@TomMcGiverin That's what I said.
@rainmanjr It bothers me too, but it is what it is, that's the practical reality, as least for now. I am quite willing to put up with it in pols, as long as they work for the right policies that we need and benefit the masses, rather than the 1%.
@TomMcGiverin I am not willing to put up with it so I don't stop criticizing them for it. I haven't seen a headline about Omar shedding her hijab, for instance, and don't hear a lot of Dem pain over that negligence. Religion is poison and I try to keep it out or, at least, make it shameful.
@rainmanjr Suit yourself, we'll have to disagree on this. This issue is one area where I actually believe in picking my battles, politically, and letting something slide, in the interest of getting action on other things that are more important to me.
Just like Todd Akin with his ‘Legitimate Rape’ comments. Real Peckerheads.
I can summarize Maher's point, about why Repubs nominate such outrageous candidates much more quickly and simply. To them, it's just another way of owning the libs and making them angry at how much hypocrisy and dishonesty they can have in their candidates, and still get the votes of all of their base.
