A good, easy to understand, summary of Ukraine/ fall of the USSR and NATO recent history ie in our lifetime.
Every nation in NATO applied to be a NATO country and is paying dues to be one. They asked because Putin was threatening them and most don't have nukes. I do agree that expansion creep has happened but, again, they asked to be a NATO country. Is that Jesus nailed to some wood behind the bearded host? It's hard to know what he believes in, anymore, as he plays to an audience for likes. I sometimes enjoy him (can't recall his name) but he can swing and miss. Richard...? Anyway, I'm not going to back Putin no matter what NATO did.
Russel is a good interviewer as he lets his guests talk.
NATO gave an assurance it would not expand Eastwards and this assurance is what ended the Cold War. Do you want the USSR and a divided Germany back?
NATO has reneged on this agreement, expanding Eastward.
NATO always knew for Russia, Georgia and Ukraine were the red lines that would trigger a military response.
and
NATO is very active in the middle East and Africa.
NATO destroyed Libya, allowing mass undocumented migration into the European continent.
NATO was there to ensure European security by 1) Stopping them fighting each other and 2) stop the USSR expanding West.
The USSR is gone and we had Yugoslavia.
NATO does not make Europe safer, it threatens its security.
Look at a map and see where Georgia and Ukraine are, then imagine that China or any other perceived military threat to the US built a base in Mexico.
Like you with Putin, I could never support NATO. Should have come down with the Berlin Wall.
@rainmanjr Countries that join NATO are irrelevant. NATO made a deal to end the Cold War, they are the ones that broke trust. You reap what you sow.
I just hope the saboteurs of Nord Stream are exposed and get their just deserts for attacking European/ EU/ NATO infrastructure. No friends of Europe or the environment are those gutless turds too afraid to own up like decent terrorists do.
@puff There's no honor among thieves or enemy nations. I'm also for EU/NATO infrastructure so we are aligned on that goal but I am more for Earth's health. Fossil fuels must at least be used infrequently, only for urgent back up to renewable energies, so attacks on Nord Stream don't bother me. It's destruction means Europe must come up with a new grid. As does States of America (SoA). If that makes me a gutless turd then so be it. After death I won't care so I'll just take that stance now.
@rainmanjr Russia is closest to Europe so sourcing energy from there will always be more efficient. Pipelines are environment friendly, more so than shipping/ trucks/ trains. Fracking is an environmental nightmare. The release of gas was comparable to a small eruption in gases being released in the atmosphere with marine life also being affected. See Chevron can exploit Venezuelan oil again now (whatever happened to wannabe presidenti over there who got Venezuelan wealth released to him?).
The silence over the Nord Stream attack tells me it was not Russia, or else we would never hear the end of it.
