The religious right in the United States is trying to create an autocracy where women are once again second class citizens. We all knew when they were making their arguments about "saving all the innocent babies" that what they were really looking for was 100% control over women's bodies. A state "supreme" court hearing the medical testimony that a patient has a non-viable pregnancy that not only will cause undue suffering on the fetus, but also threaten the life of the mother and risk her ability to have children in future and then ruling that the situation doesn't meet the criteria for an exception to the abortion ban is unthinkable. How do these people live with themselves? How do they not know the anguish they are causing? And for what?
a significant number of women must support this also.
Unfortunately.
It is not unusual, my own mother, an obsessive Christian religious maniac back in the sixties and seventies was pathologically against women's rights, equality and abortion rights, because it was "Heretical"
it was "Anti-biblical"
and was "Against nature and the will of God"
In later years she finally admitted to me that the real reason was,
a) that she did not want to be forced to go back to work
b) She believed she deserved to be looked after by her husband in return for giving him children
c) She hated the idea that women of the next generation would "get away" with stuff she was not allowed to have and would not have to "suffer" a bad marriage like she did.
