Maybe we're not supposed to believe in astrology, but I feel a strange affinity for it - probably my older sister's influence. Is there a scientific argument to be made in support of it? For example, most everyone born in May is concieved in August and shares the same environment through each step of their development, relative to one another. Why shouldn't that have some affect on out attitude and temperament?
B.S. (like P.S., get it?) I'm a Taurus.
I have gotten into the habit over the years of not messaging womens profiles in dating sites that state their Horoscope sign. I have found its the thin end of a weird wedge.
Billy Connelly had the ultimate comeback when asked his star sign. He used to answer "Pyrex", and claim he was a test-tube baby.
Besides, I call "Hemispherism" on Astrology. How can they assign me a constellation from the Northern Hemisphere, when I have my own "star sign" in the Southern Hemisphere that doesn't even appear on Astrological charts.
If the "time of year" thing had any credibility, then us people in the Southern Hemisphere have been getting reversed horoscopes for years.
One thing that gets me about astrology is how insulting it is. For example could you imagine reading this in your newspaper or magazine:
Chinese men will have problems at work today.
Black women will find it a good day to travel
Blonds, don`t let yourself be taken for granted
You see what I mean
Look up ‘Bill Nye Astrology’ on YouTube. Game. Over.
For folks who want to believe in woo, confirmation bias works wonders. As for any scientific view of astrology, there is none. I find it perplexing that one who wishes to be rational can do so selectively by disposing of one and dragging along all the others. The basis for not accepting a supernatural god is not the notion of a god but the absurdity of the supernatural.
People concieved in August do not share the same environment. It’s winter in August for half the globe.
Ignoring that, why shouldn't that have some affect on our attitude and temperament? There is no reason, but there is no reason to think it should either. Hell, there’s no reason to think people born in the same month would share any attribute except a digit in their birthday.
