Are there many gay atheists.
I have yet to meet a gay man who was atheist. Maybe it's because I'm in Tennessee?
I'm an older Lesbian, who grew up attending a Catholic parochial school(1-12) and a M.Ed. from a prominent Catholic College. I was agnostic, then accepted atheism.... only one tenet: respect others
I am a 'gaytheist', but I hate labels. I have not run into very many of us on Grindr. I must say that most of the bisexual men looking for quickie hookups are married, or in a LTR with a girlfriend I am out here in Ohio. I am taking action to correct that disadvantage soon LOL. We are horribly represented in the national narrative.
I live in Tennessee and am friends with two gay men who are atheist. Of course there are atheists in Tennessee. We have a gay bar in our city (Chattanooga) and we aren't even the largest one (city). If you haven't met anymore gay atheist in your town I think you just have to look harder.
It’s because you’re in Tennessee. Lots of gay folks re-evaluate and move away from religion because it tells them that they are inherently bad.
Of course. In fact, because of the frequent religious condemnation of gays I think that they are more heavily represented in the atheist population. I've met gay atheists at a Unitarian Universalist fellowship. Generally, I think, they have been 'tortured' by mainline religions and moved away from the traditional church.
About 40% of Sydney siders are agnostic/atheist. At least the people that I meet.
I only now live close to Portland, (Oregon, USA), but when i lived there I learned it was the least religious city in the U.S. with the lowest over all church attendance. I think they are more likely the city with the most people who admit they don't go to church.
I'm an omnisexual and polyamorous Atheist woman. Not sure if I count, since you're looking for gay MEN, but I thought I'd put in my two-cents.
Yes, I am a lesbian in Washington state hoping to meet woman around my age without any mythical beliefs holding her down.
Its due to the fact you are in TN. (I am Gay and an atheist)
I would say "yes," but I'm agnostic. Though my atheist friends insist that I'm really an atheist who's afraid to make a commitment.
It just takes exploration. Good to meet other gay atheists here, even if it is just for friendship. Dominic
The only question you need to answer is whether you believe in a god or not. This isn't to say that "There is no god". It's only a question of whether you believe in one or not, and though it sounds like splitting hairs, it really isn't. Think of it as a compass of sorts, in the same vain as the political compass. Agnostic vs. Gnostic is the position of your KNOWLEDGE, and Atheist vs. Theist is the position of your BELIEF. For me, I'm about 99.9% of the way to Gnostic certainty there is no god, right in the same line with unicorns, faeries, and leprechauns, but I am ENTIRELY happy to accept any and all of their existences if I'm provided with proof. But I'm still 100% on the Atheist side of Atheist vs. Agnostic, because I absolutely don't believe one exists. I hope that makes some sort of sense...
Hi fellow bible belt resident! Lesbian atheist here. I'm in Oklahoma and know a few lesbian atheists but I don't know that I know any gay, men, atheists.
I find it so odd that any LGBT persons are Christian. But then again I find it odd that anybody is.
I have often wondered why, even as slaves, the black community adopted the religion of their slave masters and why a large portion of that community continues to cling to the same testament that was used to justify that oppression.
I'm a gay agnostic
Glad to meet you. Dominic
ok i was atheist first and then i found out i was bi
so... i guess i count?
Good meeting you. Dominic
