My take on it. Accepting that Lot existed and did indeed father his own grandchildren, it was merely an act of incest. As you point out, if he was passed out he would not be able to accomplish erection/ejaculation, thus no babies.

Lot committed incest with his daughters and made up a story and blamed the victims- his daughters- like all those kind of people who commit that act do. It was not his fault, it was the daughters who paraded themselves in an inappropriate manner around him and seduced him.
